The 21km line branches off the Algiers - Bilda line at Birtouta, serving five stations, two of them in the new town of Sidi Abdallah. The double-track line is electrified at 25kV ac 50Hz and designed for 140km/h operation.

Services will operate at 30 minute intervals with a journey time of around 40 minutes between Zéralda and Algiers.

Two extensions beyond Zéralda are currently being studied to serve coastal towns west of Algiers. One of these will run northeast to Chéraga and Ain Benain, while the second will serve Bousmail, Gouraya and Tipasa to the south west.
