CASABLANCA transport authority Casa Transport has awarded the contract to operate and maintain the city's first light rail line to a consortium of RATP Dev, Caisse de Dépôt et Gestion du Maroc, and Transinvest.

The consortium will manage commissioning of the line, which is due to open at the end of the year, and will also recruit and train 670 local employees. The five year contract is worth €70m, with a further €20m option to maintain the LRV fleet.

The 30.5km Y-shaped line has 48 stations and is expected to carry 255,000 passengers per day by 2015.
