The line will connect the Ivorian port of San Pedro with the Malian capital Bamako, serving mining and agricultural areas of the two countries and providing a more efficient link for freight from Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea to the Atlantic coast.

The agreement was signed in the Ivorian capital Abidjan in the presence of Ivory Coast's transport minister Mr Gaossou Toure, Mr Matteo Triglia, Italferr's CEO and the Italian Ambassador Mr Alfonso Di Riso.
