Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) awarded Bombardier a $US 571m contract in November 2008 for 219 Movia vehicles, which are being assembled at Bombardier's joint venture facility in Changchun, China. The remaining trains will be delivered by mid-2016.
Eleven sets will be delivered in time for the opening of the initial 3.4km section of the Downtown Line between Bugis and Chinatown next year. The 16.6km Stage 2 from Bugis to Bukit Panjang will be completed in 2015 and the final 21km eastern section from Chinatown to Expo will open in 2017. The line will be operated by SBS Transit.
