The 4.2km extension will link the existing terminus at Santolan in Pasig City with Masinag in the municipality of Cainta. Civil works on the viaduct section are due to be completed within 18 months of contract signing.

Four consortia also submitted prequalification documents on January 27 for the operation and maintenance contract, which is being tendered as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) by DOTC and Manila Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA). The 10-15 year concession will cover the operation and maintenance of both the Masinag extension and the existing 13.8km line, together with any future extensions.

The consortia include:

  • Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Philippines, and SMRT, Singapore
  • DM Consunji, Philippines, and Tokyo Metro
  • LRM2
  • San Miguel, Philippines, and Korail, Korea

A shortlist of prequalified bidders is due to be announced by the end of next month.

DOTC says proposals for a further extension of LRT from Recto to Manila's port area are currently being processed by the National Economic Development Authority.
