CHINA Railway Corporation confirmed on December 19 that construction has begun on a 402km line linking Lhasa in Tibet with Nyingchi, close to the disputed Indian border region of Arunachal Pradesh, which China claims as part of Tibet.

The total budget for the project is Yuan 36.6bn ($US 6bn) and construction is due to be completed by 2021.

In August China inaugurated the second phase of Tibet's railway network, the 253km line from Lhasa to Xigaze (Pictured).
