Taipei’s Department of Rapid Transit Systems (Dorts) awarded Ansaldo STS and AnsaldoBreda (now Hitachi Rail Italy) a €220m contract in April 2009 to supply electrical and mechanical systems for the initial 15.5km phase of the line from Wugu Industrial District to an interchange with the metro Green Line at Dapinglin. Commercial services are due to begin operating on the 14-station line in late-2018.

Hitachi Rail Italy’s €114m share of the contract covers the supply of 17 four-car driverless trains. Each 68m-long 2.65m-wide train will accommodate 98 seated and 555 standing passengers.
