THE city of Kermanshah in western Iran joined the national railway network on March 20, when the country’s president Dr Hassan Rouhani inaugurated the 110km line from Firuzan.

The line is part of a new railway connecting Malayer with Khosravi on the border with Iraq.

The initial section of the line from Malayer to Firuzan opened in May 2017 and the 263km Kermanshah - Khosravi stretch is being built by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation. A branch runing south to Ilam is also planned.

The inaugural passenger train from Kermanshah ran to Tehran and Mashhad.
