The 22.8km 14-station line from Quezon City to Bulacan is scheduled to open in April 2020.

Using its experience as a rail operator, Korail will provide support on system configuration for operations and maintenance.

The Korean operator has previous experience in the Philippines and was awarded a Won 10bn ($US 9m) contract to improve facilities on Manila Line MRT-1 in 2013.

In its latest announcement, Korail states that it will also do all it can to secure the Won 540bn maintenance contract for MRT-7. In addition to this, the company is hoping to establish itself further in the Philippine market by working closely with San Miguel Holdings on operations maintenance contracts for lines MRT-2 and MRT-6.

Korail is not the only Korean company involved in the MRT-7 - in January Hyundai Rotem confirmed it has been awarded a contract to supply 108 metro cars together with signalling, communications, and power supplies for the project.
