METRO Trains Melbourne’s fleet of X’Trapolis EMUs is set to reach 101 trains after Public Transport Victoria (PTV) signed a €100m contract with Alstom for nine additional sets.

Each 145m-long six-car train will accommodate 1430 passengers.

Production of the trains will begin at Alstom’s Ballarat facility in late 2017 and the 101st train is due to be delivered at the end of 2018.

The order coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Ballarat plant, which was acquired by Alstom in 1999.
