John Holland will implement the project as part of an alliance with construction partners Abigroup and Coleman Rail, and design partners Aecom and GHD.
The alliance will construct a new 1km-long bridge over the Maribyrnong River, as well as 4.5km of new track to separate commuter and regional passenger trains, and a new double-track bridge over Dudley Street in West Melbourne.
The scope of the works also includes track reconfiguration and upgrades on the North Melbourne flyover, which will improve access to regional platforms at Melbourne's Southern Cross Station. The project will be completed in 2016.
