GE Transportation has commissioned a moving assembly line for locomotives at its Contagem plant in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, which according to the manufacturer will reduce lead times by around 20%.

Ukraine to launch high-speed rail study

UKRAINE’s transport minister Mr Volodymyr Omelyan and Mr Ricardo Maria Monti, president of Italian State Railways (FS) engineering subsidiary Italferr met in Kiev on January 30 to discuss the preparation of technical and economic studies for high-speed rail on the Odessa - Kiev - Lviv corridor.

January saw the publication of an eagerly-awaited strategic plan for the development of road and rail networks in Northern England. Keith Barrow outlines the key elements of the plan, which includes proposals for a new line across the Pennines.

Alstom rolls out first Citadis for Lusail LRT

ALSTOM presented the first of 28 Citadis Al Mehmel low-floor LRVs for the Lusail light rail network to Qatar’s minister of transport and communications H.E. Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti during a recent visit to the company’s plant in La Rochelle, France.
