The line currently carries about 70,000 passengers but trains are overcrowded and service frequency has been cut because only 14 of 23 trains which operate on the line are in service and eight diesel locomotives are awaiting repair. The previous administration had planned to spend Pesos 285m on improvements but only 10% of the work was completed.

Under the new plan, Pesos 420m will be used to repair coaches and locomotives, Pesos 640m to renew track, Pesos 110m to improve stations, Pesos 70m to upgrade communications systems, and Pesos 130m for other infrastructure measures.

In addition, Pesos 270m will be invested to install Automatic Train Stop (ATS), making the Belgrano North the first in Buenos Aires to be fitted with ATS.
