Vale is planning to build a new 101km extension of the railway south from Parauapebas to serve new mining developments near Canãa dos Carajas, which will have capacity to produce more than 90 million tonnes of iron-ore per year.

The project also includes upgrading of 504km of the existing line, with the construction of a second track on 42 sections of the route.

According to BNDES work will begin on the project in 2016.
