The authorisation was signed by the governor on August 3 in the presence of CPTM president Mr Mario Bandeira, Mr Jurandir Fernandes, secretary of Metropolitan Transport and Mr Guilherme Quintella, UIC chairman for Latin America.
Bandeira says supporting local suppliers will be a priority, and CPTM is likely to favour assembly of the trains in Brazil. "I do not see a reason to acquire trains from other countries, like Rio de Janeiro did recently," he affirms.
Bidding documents are available online from today and proposals should be submitted by September 12, with deliveries due to commence within 18 months of the contract being signed.
