PAULISTA Metropolitan Trains Company (CPTM) has awarded a Reais 21m ($US 7m) contract to the Brazilian subsidiaries of French engineering firms Setec and Egis to provide technical assistance and project management services for the construction of a rail link to São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport.

Line 13 services will start at Brás station in central São Paulo, sharing tracks with Line 12 as far as Engenheiro Goulart station before diverging onto a new 10.8km branch which will serve a single intermediate station in Guarulhos before terminating at the airport.

Line 13 will open in 2018 and ridership between the city centre and the airport is forecast to be around 120,000 passengers per day.
