The project will also include the expansion of the depot to accommodate the new EMUs which will be deployed to increase capacity on the 82km network, 15.3km of which is underground, and is electrified at 25kV ac. The successful bidder will also be expected to maintain the EMUs for 15 years. The network currently operates 24 four-car trains supplied by Bombardier, which are based on Britain's class 357 EMUs and are built to the British loading gauge.

The RFQ document will be available from 08.00 CAT on January 11 2016 until 16.30 CAT on January 22 from www.gautrainrfq.co.za. The closing date for applications is March 7 at 10.00 CAT.
