By 2021 S-Bahn Hamburg will refurbish the entire fleet of 112 three-car trains under its €70m ET 474 Plus programme, with the first 20 trains due to be completed by the end of this year.
The project includes accessibility improvements for passengers with reduced mobility, the installation of full-width gangways, and a multi-purpose area in the centre car for pushchairs and bicycles. In addition, the class 474s are being equipped with a new passenger information systems, which will also be installed on the new class 490 EMUs being supplied by Bombardier.
