The 15-year concession covers 9.4 million train-km per year on Lines S8, S41, S42, and S47. The winning bidder will take over operations in December 2017 and will be required to introduce a fleet of new trains.

The concessionaire will also be contractually obliged to lease the trains to whoever takes over the lines when the concession expires in 2032.

The Ring Line is the first of three planned concessions for the S-Bahn, which at present is operated entirely by DB Regio.
