The stainless steel vehicle is the first Chinese-built train to enter service in South America and will soon be followed by 33 others as part of the contract signed by Rio de Janeiro State Transport with the CMC-CNRCRC consortium in June 2009. Five of the trains have already been delivered to Brazil, with all 34 as well as 114 metro cars due to enter service before the Soccer World Cup in 2014 which Brazil is hosting.
Last month SuperVia placed an additional order worth Reais 542.6m for 60 emus with CNR Changchun as the operator aims to boost its fleet in the run up to the 2016 Olympic Games which Rio is hosting.
