The project will involve the electrification of the following lines at 25kV ac 50Hz:
Ventspils – Tukums – Jelgava – Krustpils – Daugavpils
Krustpils – Rezekne, and
Daugavpils – Rezekne
The programme will also include conversion of the Riga – Jelgava and Riga – Sloka – Tukums lines from 3.3kV dc to 25kV electrification. Early last year the European Union (EU) agreed to allocate Lats 400m ($US 752m) towards the project and LDZ launched an environmental impact assessment last July.
The deadline for expressions of interest in the design contract is April 10.
