Unveiling DB's 2012 sustainability report in Berlin, chief sustainability officer Dr Karl-Friedrich Rausch said: "The renewable sourcing of power for our long-distance services has already made us the biggest customer for green energy in Germany."
With an electrified network covering nearly 20,000km, DB is one of Germany's largest industrial power consumers. Last year renewable energy accounted for 24% of traction current, and this figure is expected to reach around 30% this year.
