The government has allocated €431m to upgrade Amsterdam Central to enable it to handle more passengers. The middle track between two platform tracks (pictured) will be removed across the station, and the platform tracks repositioned to enable the platforms to be widened. One of the three passenger subways connecting the platforms will be enlarged.

The 84km Nijmegen – Venlo – Roermond line which runs near the German border will be electrified at 1.5kV dc at a cost of €99m. The project will be completed in 2020. A further €76m will be spent remodelling Roermond station, building a new station at Gurbbenvorst, and increasing capacity near Cuijk.
