The project is divided into three phases: Fushë Kosovë - Hani i Elezit (Macedonian border) (64km); Fushë Kosovë - Mitrovicë (34.4km); and Mitrovicë - Leshak (Serbian border) (42km). This line is Kosovo's only functioning international rail link.
The total cost of the project will be €195.5m and the EBRD will provide sovereign loans totalling up to €71.8m across the three phases.
The EBRD says the first phase loan is its largest transaction in Kosovo to date and the bank's first investment in the country's transport sector.
