In an interview broadcast on France's Inter Radio on November 24, minister of ecology, sustainable development and energy Mrs Ségolène Royal said equipment would be installed at Paris Nord and Lille Europe stations by December 20, as well as Brussels Midi and Amsterdam Central. There will also be random checks on passengers at stations in France and Royal says the French government is considering whether passenger names should be printed on all international train tickets.
Security is being tightened in the wake of a series of terrorist attacks in Paris on November 13, which killed 130 people, as well as a failed attack on board an Amsterdam - Paris Thalys service on August 21, which prompted French National Railways (SNCF) to set up a working group on the installation of security portals at stations.
