Bavarian Railway (BEG), together with DB Networks and Czech infrastructure manager SZDC, plan to reopen the line from Selb in Bavaria to As, Czech Republic, in December 2013. Market studies indicate around 1200 passengers a day would use a half-hourly-interval service from Hof to Cheb.

A second project in the north involves reopening the 40km line from Ducherow on the Berlin - Stralsund line to Swinoujscie on the Polish part of the island of Usedom. German and Polish regional governments agreed recently to support reopening the line and obtain the backing of their national governments. A new lifting bridge would be needed at Karnin to connect Usedom to the German mainland.
