The Lithuanian parliamentary vote was 96 in favour with one abstention. This compares with the Estonian Parliament, which was the first to ratify the agreement on June 19, with 63 votes in favour and 20 against, while the Latvian parliament voted unanimously in favour on June 22.

“This is a milestone to demonstrate the Baltic interest in the project implementation, relevant to different stakeholders – the general public of the Baltic countries, potential customers, contractors, and last but not least the EU Commission, our main investor, and Finland and Poland, our partners in Rail Baltica implementation,” says Ms Baiba Rubesa, CEO and chairperson of the Management Board of the RB Rail joint venture.”

The Rail Baltica Intergovernmental agreement, which lays down the principles for developing the new railway covering the route, deadlines, technical parameters, funding conditions and ownership issues, was signed in Tallinn on January 31 by three prime ministers.
