Van der Driest's resignation follows that of the CEO of NS, Mr Timo Huges, on June 4. Van der Driest says he feels responsible for the unlawful and unfair behaviour of NS during the tendering of the Limburg regional rail and bus concession, in which NS is accused of abusing its dominant market position and committing violations of the Railways Act.

The prosecutor will not only investigate NS but also individuals. A former senior manager of Veolia is accused of leaking confidential information to NS subsidiaries Abellio and QBuzz during the tendering process. Meanwhile, Veolia filed a multi-million Euro claim for damages against NS earlier this week.

Abellio was disqualified from bidding due to irregularities discovered in the tendering process and the 15-year concession was subsequently awarded to Arriva.
