The fleet of 31 Utility Track Vehicles (UTVs) includes 13 powered units and will be based at the tunnel maintenance centres in Erstfeld and Biasco, which are currently under construction. The UTVs can be equipped with a variety of cranes, generators, and work platforms.

The vehicles will be delivered between January 2015 and April 2016 and Harsco says the contract includes options for additional units.

According to SBB, Harsco was awarded the contract because its bid best met three of the four key bidding criteria and therefore achieved the highest overall score. SBB says 30-40% of the contract value will go to Swiss companies involved in the project, including Ferriere Cattaneo, Nencki, Selectron, and APS Electronic.
