Russian Railways subsidiary RZD International began reconstruction of the 29.5km section between Mala Krsna and Velika in October 2015. The works, which included track renewal and replacement of switches and crossings, have increased line speeds from 50km/h to 120km/h.
Passenger traffic is due to resume in June and RZD International will complete the final stages of the project during maintenance possessions.

The line is part of TEN-T Corridor 10, which links Austria and Hungary with the Greek port of Thessaloniki via Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia.

In addition to the Mala Krsna – Velika line, RZD is upgrading the Sopot Kosmajski – Kovačevac and Ruma – Golubinci lines under a contract awarded by ŽS in May 2013.
