  • Hermes, a scheme to design a multi-purpose freight wagon to carry a variety of products such as minerals, raw materials and cereals
  • Auggmed, which is aimed at developing an online training tool covering safety, security and emergencies, and
  • EUTravel, which seeks to develop an open data processing platform to facilitate intermodal freight.

Horizon 2020, which is aimed at securing Europe's global competitiveness, is the EU's biggest research and innovation programme with nearly €80bn of funding available during the seven years from 2014 to 2020. The programme is also expected to attract private investment.
