ABC Electrification, an alliance of Alstom, Babcock, and Costain, has been awarded the Central (London North Western, South) and Wales and Western & Wales regional contracts. NR has selected AmeyInabensa, a joint venture between Amey, Britain, and Inabensa, Spain for the Southern region contract, while the Central (East Midlands) and Scotland & North East regional contracts have been allocated to a joint venture of Carillion and SPL Powerlines, Austria. Balfour Beatty will be responsible for electrification work on the Central (London North Western, North) region.
The six regional frameworks include the following major electrification projects:
- Great Western Main Line (London – Newbury/Bristol/Swansea/Oxford and branches)
- Midland Main Line (Bedford – Nottingham/Sheffield)
- North West (Manchester – Liverpool, Manchester – Bolton – Preston – Blackpool, Wigan – Huyton), and
- Electric Spine (Southampton – Oxford – Coventry – Nuneaton, Oxford – Bletchley - Bedford), and
- Cardiff Valley Lines.
