LEIPZIG Transport Authority (LVB) has issued a call for tender for up to 41 light rail vehicles to be supplied between 2016 and 2020, with the first five vehicles supplied as a pre-series.

The single-direction LRVs must have a minimum 70% low floor in the passenger area. They need to be 45m long and 2.3m wide with an 8.5-tonne axleload. Each LRV should accommodate around 200 passengers at a density of 4 people/m2 and have about 80 seats.

The vehicles should be designed for a minimum life of 32 years and to operate around 100,000km per year.

The network in Leipzig is standard-gauge with a minimum curve radius of 17m and a maximum gradient of 6%. The system is electrified at 600V dc but this is likely to be increased to 750V dc in the future.
