Driver killed in Dutch level crossing crash

THE driver of an Arriva Stadler 2/8 EMU was killed after the train hit a mobile crane on a level crossing at Dalfsen on the Zwolle-Emmen line at 09.00 CET.

 

The train derailed and overturned on its side and rescue operations are underway.

The crane driver has been arrested and is facing criminal charges, while an investigation has been launched by the Dutch rail safety authority (ILT) and the National Safety Board.

Arriva operates regional services between Zwolle and Emmen under a concession from Overijssel Province.
