Kapsch, alongside its partner in the project, Bytemark, will deliver a mobile ticketing app and website, a customer service tool for account management, electronic validators, and account-based back office solutions for Marta to manage and operate the ticketing system.

The system will cover ticketing services at all of Marta’s 38 metro stations, and onboard 565 fixed-route and 210 paratransit buses. Marta’s neighbouring authorities, including Georgia Regional Transportation Authority and Atlanta Streetcar, will also have the option to participate in the programme.

The contract is worth just under $US 11m and will be delivered by Kapsch TrafficCom alongside its sister companies, Kapsch CarrierCom, and Kapsch Public TransportCom.

Kapsch secured the contract after successfully coming through a competitive pilot programme in which it conducted full system testing in a real-world environment, providing evidence that the solution is viable.

Marta is the ninth largest rapid transit system in the United States, and is used by more than 500,000 people every weekday.
