Based in Hortolândia near São Paulo, Greenbrier-Maxion has a 70% share of the market for new freight wagons in Brazil and is also active in the wagon maintenance market.

Greenbrier acquired its initial 19.5% stake in what was then Amsted-Maxion Hortolândia in May 2015. The $US 15m deal gave Greenbrier an option to purchase a further 40.5% stake by September 2017.

Greenbrier has also increased its stake in Amsted-Maxion Cruzeiro, a manufacturer of castings and components for wagons, from 19.5% to 24.5%.
