According to the company's annual results, which were published on March 11, total revenue reached $HK 41.7bn ($US 5.4bn) in 2015, up from $HK 40.2bn the previous year. Profit from underlying businesses fell by 5.9% to $HK 10.9bn, primarily due to a slide in profits from property development.
In Sweden MTR launched its Stockholm - Gothenburg MTR Express service in March, while in December MTR Nordic was awarded a concession to operate the Stockholm Pendeltåg suburban rail network for 10 years from December 2016. Stockholm County Council also extended MTR's concession to operate the city's metro network for a further six years from 2017.
In Britain, MTR took over TfL Rail services between London Liverpool Street and Shenfield, the first phase of the Crossrail concession.
There was also growth for MTR's China operations, with the signing of a concession agreement for the operation of Beijing metro Line 16 in November and the opening of Beijing Line 14 phase 3 in December.
Passenger numbers on MTR's Hong Kong network increased 1.8% to 1.94 billion while punctuality remained constant at 99.9%. Investment in the renewal and upgrading of the network reached $HK 7bn with major orders for new trains and signalling.
