The double-track section will link New Bhaupur and Mughalsarai, and is part of the central section of the new line which will connect Dankuni near Kolkata with Ludhiana. The project is being funded by the World Bank.

DFCCL's managing director, Mr Adesh Sharma, says he wants to finalise all the contracts for both the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors worth a total of Rs 260bn during the 2015-16 financial year as all the funding for the Rs 810bn project has been agreed. It is hoped to complete both lines in 2019.
