The train, comprising 27 wagons and carrying nine blades, completed the journey from the Vestas factory at Lauchhammer north of Dresden to the Danish port of Esbjerg in 72 hours.

The train was operated by Geodis Wilson's Industrial Projects division and its specialised oversized rail freight unit STSI, together with Captrain, SNCF Geodis' European railfreight subsidiary.

Vestas says it is working with SNCF Geodis to switch the transport of most onshore wind turbine components from road to rail, reducing transport costs by up to 15%.
