SWISS intermodal operator Hupac and its Italian counterpart Cemat, together with Trenitalia, have signed a memorandum of understanding for the development of future intermodal terminals in Milan, Brescia and Piacenza that will aid intermodal freight traffic in Northern Italy and on the Rotterdam - Genoa corridor.
The signing of the pact was the culmination of a forum on Alpine transit held by Hupac in Lugano to celebrate its 45th anniversary.
According to a Swiss Ministry of Transport (BAV) spokesman, the ministry will follow up this joint agreement by identifying a way for Switzerland to take part in, or provide, pre-financing for future infrastructure projects in northern Italy.
