DB Schenker Rail's Swiss-Shuttle and SBB's Cargo's Rail Plus Germany services are intended as a direct alternative to road transport and according to SBB Cargo can carry palletised freight from anywhere in Switzerland to Hamburg within 48 hours.
In March SBB Cargo and Belgium's SNCB Logistics - another Xrail member - launched an accelerated wagonload service which, cut the transit time between Belgium and Switzerland from a week to 4.5 days.
