UZ carried 264.4 million tonnes of freight between January and July, a 0.5% increase over the first half of 2011. Domestic traffic fell 3.2% year-on-year to 137.8 million tonnes and transit traffic was down 14.3% to 26 million tonnes, but these losses were balanced by increases in import volumes, up 15.9% to 20 million tonnes, and export, which rose 11.4% to 80.6 million tonnes.

The domestic market continues to be dominated by bulk minerals, in particular coal (70.6 million tonnes) and metallurgical ores (50.9 million tonnes). Construction products accounted for 39.4 million tonnes and grain 13 million tonnes during the first half.
