The 157.4km line from Kazuo to Chifeng, a city of 1.1 million people, is forecast to cost Yuan 17bn ($US 2.6bn), including Yuan 1bn for rolling stock, and construction is expected to take around four years to complete.

The second line will run for 197km from Xinmin northwest of Shenyang to Tongliao, a city of around 900,000 inhabitants in eastern Inner Mongolia. The total estimated cost of the project is Yuan 17.8bn, including Yuan 1.2bn for the train fleet, and commissioning is scheduled for 2020.

Both lines will be equipped with Chinese Train Control System (CTCS) Level 2 and designed for 250km/h operation, with a minimum curve radius of 3500m.
