The new line is designed for 250km/h operation and reduces the fastest Chongqing North – Wanzhou North journey time from around four hours to 1h 44min. The line is also served by Chengdu - Wanzhou CRH high-speed services, the fastest of which complete the trip in 3h 19min.
Construction began in 2013 and the line runs in tunnels or on bridges for 71% of its length.
