The 250km/h 11-car train will be subjected to an extensive programme of tests in the coming weeks as Stadler moves towards obtaining an Authorisation to Place into Service (APS) for operation of the fleet in Switzerland, and a Supplementary Authorisation to Place into Service (SAPS) for Germany, Austria, and Italy.

SBB placed a SFr 980m ($US 1.03bn) order with Stadler in October 2014 for 29 of the 11-car articulated trains, with an option for 92 additional sets. The multi-system EMUs will initially operate on Basle/Zürich - Milan services via the Gotthard Base Tunnel and are due to enter service in 2019.
