The work involved changing wheels, and overhauling the driver's cab air-conditioning systems, master controllers, heat and ventilation units and articulations. In addition, Alstom modified the pantograph connectors and upgraded the static converter to improve functions on the vehicle.
"The first tram took us four weeks to complete, but by the third tram we had got that down to two weeks, which then became our standard," says Mr Nick Phillips, operations director at Alstom Ireland.
Seven additional technicians were employed to carry out the work while the bogie overhaul area at Alstom's Sandyford Green Line depot was upgraded with an improved wheel press, additional bogie stands and a new layout to help streamline the work.
Alstom won a €23m contract in 2012 to maintain the Green Line fleet for a further five years from 2014 to 2019.
