MVG says three of the eight vehicles have been certified for passenger use and the remaining five are expected to enter passenger service within the next few weeks.

The 36.85m-long LRVs, which are classified type T1 by MVG, will accommodate up to 220 passengers.

Six of the vehicles have been ordered to increase frequencies on the existing network, while the remaining two will expand fleet capacity for the opening of the 2.7km tram extension from Max Weber Platz to Berg-am-Laim S-Bahn station bext year.

MVG ordered the Avenios in September 2012 in a deal worth €29m.

Siemens will display an Avenio LRV in the outdoor area at Innotrans in Berlin on September 23-26.
