One of BVB's new fleet of Bombardier Flexity low-floor LRVs, which operate services over the 2.8km extension, was named Weil-am-Rhein to mark the completion of the SFr 104m ($US 109m) project.
BVB operates a 15 minute service on the extension on weekdays, with every second tram on Line 8 continuing to the terminus at Weil-am-Rhein Main Station. Passengers can travel freely across the border, with German customs officers travelling on the trams carrying out random checks.
