BKK tenders Budapest Kelenföld tram extension BKK

BUDAPEST Transport Centre (BKK) has launched a tender for a contract to extend tram Line 1 from Fehérvári út to a new terminus Etele tér adjacent to Kelenföld main line station.

The 16.6km line will be extended by nearly 2km with lawn track and raised platforms to enable step-free boarding. The project includes construction of an underground substation and a four-track terminus station at Etele tér, which will not be linked with the existing Line 19/49 terminus.

The deadline for submission of bids is November 14. Construction is due to begin next year and the project will be completed in 2018.
