The closing date for the tender is February 28 2018, with delivery between October 1 2021 and October 31 2022.

BLT, which will account for 10 of the new units, currently runs a fleet of 103 trams serving the outer suburbs of Basle to the south, with delivery of the latest batch of 38 units from Stadler completed in 2016. Its well-established network comprises 77km of double-track lines which are electrified at 650V dc. It also operates a section just over the French border.

Limmatttalbahn, which will take the remaining eight units with options for two to eight additional vehicles, will deploy the sets on a new 13.4km line between Zürich-Altstetten and Killwangen-Spreitenbach. The line will be electrified partly at 600V dc and partly at 1.2kV dc. The first stage is due to come into operation in late summer 2019, with the entire project completed by December 2022.
